Daphne du Maurier’s 1938 novel ‘Rebecca’ was the inspiration for Netflix’s new film. ‘Rebecca’, previously adapted for film by Alfred Hitchcock in 1940, had been noted for its period clothes and lavish venues. And now the film, directed by Ben Wheatley, is much more mysterious. In ‘Rebecca,’ starring Lily James and Armie Hammer, Kristin Scott Thomas is also the deputy Mrs. of the Manderley estate. He plays Denvers. The film, which will be released on Netflix on October 21, takes a different view of du Maurier’s 1930s novel.
